About Me - Zahid Hussain

About Me

I was born in the North of England to a hard-working Pakistani family rooted in poetry and story-telling. My earliest memory of my mother is of her reading. To this day, I often ask my mother to share a story from her childhood. I am continually amazed that she has more stories to tell. Some things truly are infinite.

So, from an early age I was fascinated by words. I began a diary at the age of nine. If you want to know where it is…it is sitting on a shelf right now, watching over me.

At the age of twelve I discovered “The Lord of The Rings” and my path was set. Soon after, I tried my hand at writing a fantasy novel. Alas, I ran out of steam, but I did produce some wonderful maps of a fantasy world. My first love was fantasy and science-fiction and to this day I read those genres voraciously. As well as pretty much anything under the sky.

My debut novel, “The Curry Mile”, was not the first book I wrote and hopefully it won’t be the last. I believe it is a bold viewpoint of Asian life which has echoes in all Diaspora communities. Do I intend to continue the tale? Of course, whilst ink remains in my pen, metaphorically speaking. And if I had to choose between reading and writing, I wouldn’t. I’d like to have my pen and write with it.
